The magnetostrictive level gauge is an absolute position measurement instrument based on the "magnetostrictive effect" principle. It accurately determines the position of the float (magnetic ring) by measuring the time it takes for a pulse wave to propagate, thereby obtaining the liquid level height.

Main Features

  • High Precision: This is its most prominent advantage. The measurement accuracy is usually ±0.5mm or higher, making it highly suitable for trade settlement and precise control.
  • Absolute Position Measurement: Unlike encoders, it does not require a return to zero. After power failure and re-powering, it can still output the correct absolute position value without cumulative error.
  • Non-contact Measurement: The float does not directly contact the waveguide tube, eliminating mechanical wear, ensuring a long service life and high reliability.
  • Simultaneous Measurement of Liquid Level and Interface: By using multiple floats (for example, one float with a density between oil and water and another floating on the oil surface), both the total liquid level and the oil-water interface position can be measured simultaneously.
  • Multiple Parameter Output: Besides the main liquid level signal (4-20mA), it can usually output multiple switch signals simultaneously (alarm points set through software), saving the installation of additional switches.
  • Good Stability: It is minimally affected by changes in temperature, pressure, and medium properties (density, conductivity, dielectric constant).
